JFW Workshop Originally uploaded by Truls. After going through a number of alternatives in regards to a new workshop location I’ve decided to check out the possibilites for building a dedicated workshop on our new property. 40 square meters will be roomy enough for all my tooling + some more that I’m planning to aquire […]
Quite a while ago I stumbled over an article in The New Atlantis that really strung a chord in me, and it goes rather well with the previous post. Check it out here: The New Atlantis
We’re busy with the whole selling/moving/extreme makeover-thing, so the progress in the workshop is meager. If not just non-existant. The only thing I have time for these days (apart from the mentioned activities) seems to be reading and listening to music. I’m re-reading “Let My People Go Surfing” by Yvon Chouinard, the founder of Patagonia. […]
Yes! About an hour ago we bought a house in a small community 40 minutes south of Oslo called Hølen. A fairly large property with lots of sun situated in a small valley. I’ve found workshop space in an old mill about 5 minutes from the house, and during the winter I’ll turn it into […]
A record-breaking 510 visitors to the blog yesterday! Up untill now I’ve been quite firm in my strategy to let this blog be a one-way communication channel. Well, since I’m really curious about where all of you are located I’m opening up for comments. So, feel free to say hi!
IMG_3868 Originally uploaded by Truls. The picture in previous postings did’nt exactly give a good impression of the precision that the Anvil mitering setup gives. This picture is “flashed out” but it illustrates the fit in a better way. Fantastic result! I’m stoked. The only finishing needed on the cuts are to remove the burrs […]
IMG_3871 Originally uploaded by Truls. The holesaw arbors (precision holders) arrived in the mail today, and I went over to test the mitering setup for the first time tonight. It went really well. The holesaws give a perfect fit between the tubes – and thus giving a better end result when brazing/welding the frame. Perfect!
IMG_2939 Originally uploaded by Truls. The mitering setup is trammed and ready for use. The holesaws (which will be used to miter or cope the tubes to fit together perfectly) arrived a few days ago as well, so the only thing missing is the holesaw arbors. And they’re in the mail from Mark at Paragon […]
IMG_2928 Originally uploaded by Truls. Spent five hours last night adjusting parts for the mitering setup on my milling machine. The rotary table and the backing plate is now ready for the Anvil mitering fixtures (allowing me to cut tubes with a very high precision on at a desired angle and length instead of doing […]
IMG_3210 Originally uploaded by Truls. Since I grew up in a tool and metalwork environment (heating manufacturer that turned into a hardwarestore on one side of the family and a lamp manufacturer on the other) I’m used to seeing metal badges of all sorts and on all sorts of products. But opening up the TOS […]
